Objective: To enable Chief/Second Engineers to demonstrate their ability to undertake management level tasks, duties and responsibilities.
Duration: Twenty-Four (24) Weeks
Main Course Content:
- Manage the operation of the propulsion plant machinery
- Plan and schedule operations
- Operation surveillance performance assessment and maintaining safety of propulsion plant and auxiliary machinery
- Manage fuel, lubrication and ballast operations
- Manage operation of electrical and electronic control equipment
- Manage troubleshooting, restoration of electrical and electronic control equipment and operation condition
- Manage safe and effective maintenance and repair procedures
- Detect and identify the cause of machinery malfunctions and correct faults
- Control trim, stability and stress
- Ensure safe work practice
- Use Leadership and managerial skills
N.B Required Experience for 750 KW and 3,000 KW Propulsion Power Licenses
- Chief Engineer– not less than thirty-six (36) months
- Second Engineer-not less than twenty-four (24) months
Successful completion of all academic assessments- will lead to a Second/Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency.
