Marine Engineering Cadet Programme

(Courses under development)

Objective: To equip new entrants with the skills and qualifications they need to become marine engineers.

Eligibility Requirements for Cadet Training:

  • Have CXC passes in five (5) subjects including Mathematics, English and Physics
  • Must be between seventeen (17) to twenty-five (25) years
  • Be self-motivated, disciplined and enthusiastic
  • Must be in good general health

Course Duration: Four (4) years

Induction: Institute- Four (4) weeks

  • Academic and Vocational Examinations
  • Work Based Leaning Projects
  • Training Record Book
  • Oral / Written Examinations

Minimum Student Enrollment: Twelve (12)

Main Course Content:

Maritime English and Report Writing, Mathematics; Information Technology Skills; Applied Physics; Introductions to Electrics; Ship Construction and Stability; Marine Engineering Principles; Marine Legislation; Applied Heat and Mechanics Workshop Skills and Technology; Effective Communication; and Thermodynamics.

Required Sea Time:

All Cadets will be required to spend time at sea to acquire a minimum of (12) months practical, hand-on experience (Operational Level).
