Deck Cadet Programme

Objective: This course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career as a Deck Officer aboard ship. It provides a comprehensive education in navigation and other shipboard activities.

​The Cadet will gain theoretical and practical insight into many different areas of vessel operations, including maritime technology, navigation, safety, cargo operations, leadership and management.

Eligibility Requirements for Cadet Training:

  • Have CXC passes (Grades 1 – 3) in five (5) subjects including Mathematics, English and Physics
  • Must be between seventeen (17) to twenty-five (25) years
  • Be self-motivated, disciplined and enthusiastic
  • Must be in good general health

Course Duration: Four (4) years

Induction: Institute- Four (4) weeks

  • Basic Safety Training (BST) STCW 78, as amended
  • Information Technology
  • Nautical Science/Proficiency in Shipboard Navigation and Operations

Practical Training

​All Cadets will be required to complete a minimum of twenty (20) months onboard training.
