Ratings Forming Part Of An Engine Room Watch (Support Level)

Objective: On completion of this course trainees would possess sufficient knowledge of marine engineering support level duties and responsibilities.

Orientation and general introduction to the Shipping Industry

STCW Pre-Sea short courses:

Basic Fire Fighting (BFF), Ship Security Awareness (SSA), Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR), Personal Survival Techniques (PST), Basic First Aid (BFA).

Phase 1

Main Course Content:

  • Carry out a watch routine appropriate to the duties of a rating forming part of an engine room watch.
  • Understand orders and be understood in matters relevant to watchkeeping duties.
  • For keeping a boiler watch:
  • Maintain the correct water levels and steam pressures.
  • Operate emergency equipment and apply emergency procedures

Phase 2

(At Sea) Twenty-Four (24) Weeks

Spend time at sea, acquiring practical, hands-on experience.

Phase 3

End of Training and Certification Process.

Candidates who successfully complete this course will be eligible to apply for the Oiler credential from the Maritime Administration Department.

Note:Candidates with more than six (6) months experience will be required to attend one (1) week classroom work instead.
